Review: 30 Interactive Brain Teasers to Warm Up Brain by Puzzleland

30-brainteasers

This is a free ebook I downloaded back in early May.  There are mixed reviews and as an avid puzzler I have my own opinion on this short and free little book., here is my review.

This short and free ebook is filled with 30 different brain teasing puzzles designed to stimulate your mind and test your thinking.

The book is free for anyone to download and being into puzzles and riddles I thought I’d give it a go seeing as it was free. The book has an introduction which advertises all the other books you can buy from the makers and then is followed by the brain teasers which are all accompanied with a clue and an answer which you can click through to see. The sort of puzzles in here are a real mix and it’s probably the reason I’ve not enjoyed this book. The puzzles range from the typical logical questions which have an often obvious but difficult to think of answer, to simple mathematic questions, what’s the next number/letter in the sequence to some puzzles which have just annoyed me as they feel silly rather than logical brain teasers.

The difficulty level on these puzzles is low, it’s even advertised in the description that the difficulty level is for beginner ‘teens and adults and even smart kids’. But some of the sillier questions don’t require you to think logically at all and seem more like joke questions with silly joke answers that a young child could guess. One question about a bus wasn’t even possible to answer correctly as a UK resident as it required thinking about how things work in America.

The book only has 30 questions and is really a book to entice you to buy others in the range. The 30 brain teasers only take up one half of the book, the rest of the book is adverts for various different types of puzzles and then the clues and answers. These other puzzle books advertised seem to be geared more towards kids rather than adults so I’m not enticed at all to buy them and it feels like the advertising both front and back of the book is a little over-pushy, however if someone did enjoy the book I understand the appeal to read more.

This book’s difficulty level is just too simple for me. I’m an avid logic, crossword and riddle lover so I’m used to more complicated puzzles than these. However it doesn’t mean that the puzzles in this book won’t appeal to others who are more at a beginner stage. I would have given this book a 3 stars based on that, however I have to drop a star as despite downloading this back in May, I still have issues with using this book on my kindle app. Clicking through to the clues and answers I sometimes get dumped onto the wrong page, and clicking ‘Go back’ often results in the page flipping back instead which means I see the answer to previous questions which is annoying if you don’t want to do all the brain teasers in order.

Overall an okay book but the navigation on my kindle app, at least, isn’t very good. A book that’s free so it’s worth checking out, but if you’re an avid puzzler you’ll probably be disappointed.

Rating: 2/5
